Sacraments

Baptism

Baptism cleanses us from original sin, makes us children of God and members of the Church.

Baptismal preparation sessions are required.

Please contact Libby Downs at (270) 885-8522 or ljdowns@stsppchurch.org to schedule a preparation session or to discuss and plan the baptismal celebration.

Eucharist

The Eucharist in the Catholic Church is a sacrament celebrated as "the source and summit" of the Christian life. The Eucharist is celebrated daily during the celebration of Mass, the Eucharistic liturgy.

For information of First Communion for children, see the "Religious Education" page.

Religious Education

Confirmation

Confirmation deepens our baptismal life and calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world.

Confirmation for students is a two-year process beginning in their 7th grade year.  See the "Religious Education" page for more information.

Reconciliation

This sacrament frees us from our sins and also challenges us to have the same kind of compassion and forgiveness for those who sin against us because "it is in pardoning that we are pardoned."

See the Mass schedule for Reconciliation times.

Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament offers a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age.

Marriage

The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God.

In order for preparation to begin, engaged couples are asked to call the parish office at (270) 885-8522 and make an appointment with either Fr. Emmanuel Udoh, our Pastor, eudoh@stsppchurch.org  or Fr. Chris Kight, our Parochial Vicar, ckight@stsppchurch.org at least six months prior to the desired date of the wedding.

Holy Orders and Religious Life

Priesthood is always a call and a gift from God. A young man says yes to this call, and he is ordained by a Bishop to serve as a priest.

Permanent Deacons share with other ordained members of the Church a dedication to serve God’s people through the proclamation of the Word, administration of the Sacraments, the offering of Worship to God through Christ, the service to the poor and the faithful of Christ.

Speak to a priest if you are interested in becoming a priest or permanent deacon.

Some men and women are called by God to Religious Life. They accept the call to a life of total devotion to Jesus Christ through prayer and dedicated service to His Church. Those in Religious Life usually live in community with others and take vows as appropriate to their specific community.
