The purpose of the WKYTEC (Western Kentucky Teens Encounter Christ) spiritual movement, united with the national TEC charism, is to serve, guide and foster growth of the local TEC community in Paschal Mystery Spirituality within the Catholic community of the Diocese of Owensboro, Kentucky, under the direction of the Spiritual Director who is appointed by the local Bishop. The movement is to provide the basic spiritual experience to lead youth and young adults into a deeper encounter with Jesus Christ through the breaking open of the Word and Sacraments of the Church in a way that gives clear focus on the Paschal Mystery (the death, resurrection and glorification of Christ). It enables them to fully, consciously and actively live out their faith through daily conversion and conformity to the Risen Christ by the grace and work of the Holy Spirit. The movement is primarily directed toward young Catholics ages seventeen to twenty-five. The Christian message is presented in such a way that the hearer is invited to listen carefully to the life-giving Word made Flesh and to allow His Spirit to enliven them to respond in Faith, Hope and Charity with their very lives. This movement is not meant to replace other religious education experiences, but to supplement and compliment them in a Sacrament-centered retreat experience that gives rise to a life of grace which allows the youth to put into practice the Faith that has been handed on to them.
