Safe Environment

Safe Environment
The mission of the Diocese of Owensboro’s “Safe Environment Program” is to insure the safety of children and young people who have been entrusted to our care in our parishes, schools, religious education classes, and other programs.
We pursue this mission in four ways:
1. By thoroughly screening and supervising all Church ministers, employees and volunteers who work with children and young people as part of their ministry.
2. By providing appropriate training in recognizing and reporting child abuse.
3. By holding all Church ministers, employees and volunteers who work with children and young people to Christ-centered and professional codes of conduct.
4. By providing the opportunity for every minor in Catholic schools and parish faith formation programs to participate annually in a safety training covering the topics of sexual abuse prevention and the need to tell if abuse is occurring.

Here at Saints Peter and Paul any adult (18 years of age and older) working/volunteering/assisting with programs that involved minor children (school programs or parish programs) are required to complete the Safe Environment Program provided by our Diocese. This is completed in two steps.

Step One:
Complete “Background Check” forms. These forms are available at the parish office or from the Diocese of Owensboro Safe Environment webpage: https://owensborodiocese.org/safe/ . Please bring your completed forms J and K to the Parish Office. When turning them in a copy of your driver’s license will be made and sent to the Diocese with your forms.

Step Two:
Complete the on-line VIRTUS Safe Environment Training
As of October 31, 2017, the Diocese of Owensboro changed its Safe Environment training provider to VIRTUS, which offers programs to “empower organizations and people to better control risk and improve the lives of all those who interact with the Church.”

The Diocese of Owensboro requires Safe Environment training at least every five years for all employees and for volunteers working with minors.

If you are a new employee or a new volunteer working with minors, or if your most recent training was more than five years ago, you will need to complete VIRTUS’s Safe Environment offering. Brenda Chaudoin at Sts. Peter and Paul Church Office can assist you.

If you have completed the SAfe Environment training and/or a back ground check for the Diocese of Owensboro, the VIRTUS system has already assigned you a User ID. To find out your User ID and information about taking your required training, please contact Brenda Chaudoin 270-885-8522, or contact the diocesan Office of Safe Environment (270-683-1545) for assistance.

If you have any questions, call the parish office at (270) 885-8522.
